W3C Xsl

# W3C XSL Activities * * * The W3C began developing XSL because there was a need for an XML-based stylesheet language. The XSL language consists of three parts: XSLT, XPath, and XSL Formatting Objects. * * * ## XSL Tutorial To learn more about XSL, please read our (#). * * * ## XSL Versions ### XSL 1.0 As a W3C Recommendation, XSL 1.0 was published on October 15, 2001, as a language for expressing stylesheets. It comprises three components: XSLT, XPath, and XSL Formatting Objects. ### XSLT 1.0 XSLT 1.0 became a W3C Recommendation on November 16, 1999. XSLT is a language used to transform XML documents into other XML documents. ### XSLT 2.0 XSLT 2.0 became a W3C Recommendation on January 23, 2007. ### XSL-FO (XSL Formatting Objects) XSL Formatting Objects is a vocabulary that defines formatting semantics. Formatting refers to the process of transforming the output of XSL into a form suitable for readers or listeners. Although there is no standalone W3C document specifically for XSL Formatting Objects, related descriptions can be found in the XSL 1.0 Recommendation. * * * ## W3C XSL Specifications and Timeline | Specification | Draft/Proposal | Recommendation Date | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | XSL 1.0 | | [October 15, 2001](http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-xsl-20011015/) | | XSL 1.1 | | [December 5, 2006](http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl/) | | | | | | XSLT 1.0 | | [November 16, 1999](http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt) | | XSLT 2.0 | | [January 23, 2007](http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt20/) | | | | | | XSLT 2.0 Requirements | [February 14, 2001](http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt20req) | | * * * ## W3C Reference Manual: (http://www.w3.org/Style/xsl) AI is thinking...
