404 NOT FOUND!

Sorry, we couldn't find the article you need!!

The 404 page is an essential part of any website, carrying significant responsibility for user experience and SEO optimization. A 404 error typically occurs when a user tries to access a page that does not exist or has been deleted on the site. If the webmaster hasn't set up a custom 404 page, it results in dead links, which can negatively impact search engine indexing when crawlers encounter such URLs.

Origin of 404 Not Found

Legend has it that before the Third Industrial Revolution, the form of the Internet was essentially one large central database located inside Room 404. At that time, all requests were manually handled by people. If the requested file wasn't found in the databaseβ€”either because it didn't exist or due to incorrect numberingβ€”the user would receive a message: "Room 404: File Not Found." After the rise of the modern Internet, people became accustomed to using 404 as the standard server response code indicating that a requested resource could not be found. Of course, historical verification shows that the legendary Room 404 never actually existed.

Two Major Benefits of Setting Up a Custom 404 Page

  • Guides users to stay on the site instead of closing it, enhancing user experience.
  • Prevents the occurrence of broken/dead links on your website.
