404 NOT FOUND!
Sorry, we couldn't find the article you were looking for!!
The 404 page is an essential part of any website that carries significant responsibility for user experience and SEO optimization. A 404 error typically occurs when users access pages on a site that do not exist or have been deleted, resulting in a server response indicating the file was not found. If webmasters don't set up a custom 404 page, dead links may appear, which can negatively impact search engine indexing during spider crawls.
Origin of 404 Not Found
Legend has it that before the Third Industrial Revolution, the internet resembled one large central database located inside Room 404. At that time, all requests were manually processed by humans; if the requested file wasnβt found in the databaseβor due to incorrect numberingβthe user would receive a message stating: room 404 : file not found. As the internet evolved, people became accustomed to using 404 as the standard error code for missing files on servers. Of course, historical verification shows that the legendary Room 404 never actually existed.
Two Major Benefits of Setting Up a 404 Page
- Guides users to stay on the site rather than closing it, enhancing user experience.
- Prevents the appearance of broken/dead links on your website.
