404 NOT FOUND!
Sorry, we couldn't find the article you were looking for!!
The 404 page is an essential part of any website and plays a crucial role in user experience and SEO optimization. A 404 error occurs when users visit pages that do not exist or have been deleted from the site. If webmasters donβt set up a custom 404 page, dead links will appear, which can negatively impact search engine indexing when crawlers access these URLs.
Origin of 404 Not Found
Legend has it that before the Third Industrial Revolution, the internet was essentially one large central database located inside Room 404. At that time, all requests had to be processed manually by staff. If the requested file wasn't found in the databaseβeither because it didnβt exist or due to incorrect numberingβthe user would receive a message saying: "Room 404: File Not Found." After the rise of the modern internet, people adopted 404 as the standard HTTP status code indicating that a server could not locate a requested resource. Of course, historical verification shows that the legendary Room 404 never actually existed.
Two Major Benefits of Setting Up a 404 Page
- Guide users to stay on your site instead of leaving, thereby improving user experience.
- Prevent broken/dead links within your website.
