## HTML `
` `src` Attribute The `src` attribute of the `
` (Inline Frame) tag is used to specify the URL of the document or webpage that should be embedded within the frame. It acts as the source pointer for the nested browsing context. --- ## Browser Support The `src` attribute is universally supported by all modern and legacy web browsers: * Google Chrome * Mozilla Firefox * Microsoft Edge / Internet Explorer * Safari * Opera --- ## Definition and Usage The `src` attribute defines the address of the external resource (usually an HTML document) to be loaded and displayed inside the `
`. ### Differences Between HTML 4.01 and HTML5 There are no differences in the behavior or definition of the `src` attribute between HTML 4.01 and HTML5. It remains a core attribute for the `
` element. --- ## Syntax ```html
``` ### Attribute Values | Value | Description | | :--- | :--- | | **`URL`** | Specifies the address of the document to show in the `
`.
**Possible values:**
β’ **Absolute URL:** Points to an external website (e.g., `src="https://www.example.com/page.html"`).
β’ **Relative URL:** Points to a file within the same website directory structure (e.g., `src="about-us.html"`). | --- ## Code Examples ### Example 1: Basic Usage with an Absolute URL This example embeds an external website into the current page using an absolute URL. ```html
Embedding an External Website
Your browser does not support iframes.
``` ### Example 2: Using a Relative URL This example embeds a local page from the same server using a relative path. ```html

Your browser does not support iframes.
``` --- ## Important Considerations When working with the `
` `src` attribute, keep the following best practices and security measures in mind: ### 1. Security & Clickjacking (X-Frame-Options) Some websites prevent themselves from being loaded inside an `
` on external domains to protect against **Clickjacking** attacks. This is controlled via the HTTP response header: ```http X-Frame-Options: DENY ``` If you attempt to load a URL with this header in your `src` attribute, the browser will block the content and display an error. ### 2. Mixed Content Restrictions (HTTP vs. HTTPS) If your main website is served over secure **HTTPS**, any URL you load in the `
` `src` attribute must also use **HTTPS**. If you try to load an insecure `http://` URL inside an `https://` page, the browser will block it as "Mixed Content." ### 3. The `sandbox` Attribute When embedding third-party content via `src`, it is highly recommended to use the `sandbox` attribute to restrict what the embedded document can do (e.g., preventing scripts, forms, or popups from running automatically): ```html
